Day Twenty-Eight:
“If you’re happy…”
It was an event, of some kind
I don’t remember Where or Why
Kids were celebrating
Scabbed knees in a rugged circle
Giggling, laughing, chanting rhymes
One suddenly raised her voice, with a well-timed pause
Busy heads bobbed, letting tiny plastic trinkets slide down
Clapping sticky palms in clumsy rhythm, bouncing, grinning, all joined in
Belting as loud as they could: “If you’re happy and you know it…”
I remember How
I was instantly amazed
Being happy…
And to know it…
Already, at such an early age…
